This is synovial osteochondromatosis (derived from synovial chondromatosis) in which nodules of hyaline cartilage detach and float as loose bodies in the synovial cavity of a large joint such as the knee. Young to middle-aged males are mostly affected by this rare process. The nodules seen here can ossify before detaching and may increase in size over time.
