The common bile duct is opened here to reveal small calculi within the lumen, indicative of choledocholithiasis. The gallbladder to the right has been opened at autopsy to reveal gallstones of varying size. In this case, cholelithiasis was complicated by choledocholithiasis. This patient was icteric from the biliary tract obstruction, and had an elevated total bilirubin that was mostly direct bilirubin, typical for obstruction.
