Research

Teachers from Department of Zoology and their graduate students carry out research in the Zoological Garden. Over half the academic staff of the Department has in the past or is currently carrying out research in the zoo. Some of these scientists have their offices in the zoo itself, while others maintain their research laboratories there or study animals housed on the premises.

The studies performed at the Zoological Garden cover a wide variety of areas such as ecology, behavior, physiology, endocrinology and applied entomology.

Some of the studies are carried out in their entirety in the Zoological Garden and its laboratories, while others are performed both in the zoo and the field or in the zoo and the laboratories of the Department of Zoology. Many of the studies are carried out in collaboration with scientific colleagues from abroad.
