סילבוס סוגיות בהיסטוריוגראפיה יהודית מודרנית – מתקופת ההשכלה ועד 'האסכולה הירושלמית'

הסמינר יעסוק בהיסטוריה של ההיסטוריוגראפיה היהודית בעת החדשה – מניצניה בתקופת ההשכלה ועד המחקר ההיסטורי המכונה 'האסכולה הירושלמית'. ייבחנו בו: ההתפתחות של המחקר ההיסטורי על רקע ההתפתחויות במחקר ההיסטורי באירופה, המגמות השונות, שאלות היסוד שעמדו על הפרק, והאינטרפרטציות השונות שניתנו להיסטוריה של העם היהודי. הדמויות המרכזיות שנעסוק בהם הם היינריך צבי גרץ, שמעון דובנוב, ושלום (סאלו) בארון, וכן היסטוריונים ישראלים: יצחק בער, שמואל אטינגר, יעקב כ"ץ ועוד.

Major Issues in Modern Jewish Historiography

This seminar will analyze modern Jewish history and historiography from the early stages of the Jewish enlightenment till the development of what is referred to as “the Jerusalem school.” Among the topics discussed, will examine: the development of historical research on the Jews within the context of European history, the different trends and questions that were examined, and the different interpretations that were given to the history of the Jewish people. The central figures that we will analyze include: Heinrich Zvi Graetz, Simon Dubnow, and Salo Baron. We will also consider the works of Israeli historians like Yitzhak Baer, Shmuel Ettinger, Jacob Katz and more.
