This seminar will present the basic analytical and conceptual tools for reading the classical poetry of pre-modern China and Japan. Classes will include general discussion of technical and critical aspects of East Asian poetics based on translated texts from both literatures, plus close readings of poems in the original Chinese and Japanese in separate groups. | |
