| Prosodic Morphology is a theory of the interaction of principles of prosody and word structure. The main topics of research within this field are Semitic morphology (the system of the binyanim and mishkalim) and reduplication (in various languages). It appears that in prosodically restricted systems, the size of various morphological units (affixes, stems, words) is defined in terms of the vocabulary of prosody (moras, syllables, feet).
We will read and discuss several papers concerned with the prosodic morphology of Semitic languages, with emphasis on the universal aspects of prosodic principles. Requirements: class participation (!!!), a paper (a phenomenon in the prosodic morphology of a Semitic language), and a 20 minutes presentation of a paper or your own research (optional). | |
