Education

2004-2009 Phd. Studies at the School of History, Faculty of Humanities, Tel-Aviv University. Currently, I am a "Stage B" student (dissertation writer). The subject of my dissertation is: The United Nations and Peacekeeping in Cambodia, Former Yugoslavia and Somalia, 1988-1995. under the guidance of Prof. Aron Shai.

My Dissertation's main argument is that although efforts had been made to develop a new concept to UN peacekeeping operations, these efforts failed due to the continuous nature of international politics in the UN, at least regarding the UN peacekeeping operations. The politics at the organization continued to be based on principles of power calculation and national interest of states rather on principles of collective security. The members states developed unique position on each case. In most cases, their positions weren't consistent with any particular political alliance which they were members to it. Furthermore, the basis of execution of multifunctional operations was the traditional concept of peacekeeping. The main efforts were directed to international mediation between warring factions for the institutionalization of sovereign governments and the deployment of peacekeeping forces in terms with their traditional principles of neutrality, consent of the local factions and the non use of force. Traditional objectives were preferred over new objectives such as democratization, economic development and advancement of human rights.
