הרצאת המכון ללימודים מתקדמים

The Institute of Advanced Studies is honored to host Professor Shota Komatsu, a distinguished theoretical physicist from CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, for the Professor Yossef Dothan Memorial Lecture, part of The Emilio Segre Distinguished Lectures in Physics series.

The event will begin with Introductory Remarks by Prof. David Horn from the School of Physics and Astronomy. Following this, the "Academic Achievement" Scholarship by the Dothan Fund, in memory of Professor Yossef Dothan, will be presented to Mr. Fraenkel Shachar, a Ph.D. Student.

Professor Komatsu will deliver a lecture titled: New theoretical approaches to strongly-coupled gauge theories. He will delve into the challenging problem of understanding the strongly coupled dynamics of Yang-Mills theories. Professor Komatsu will describe several active approaches in the physics community, including his own groundbreaking work, all inspired by recent advancements in string theory and formal quantum field theory. He will highlight a key emerging strategy: finding setups where important dynamic aspects can be studied independently. Additionally, he will reveal surprising connections discovered with condensed matter physics and physics on curved spacetime during the pursuit of these approaches.

When and Where?
Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 14:00

The event is open to the public and will be conducted in English.

Light refreshments will be served before the lecture.
