Technological tools (are there any other types of tools?) are seen as extensions of our capabilities and senses. We commonly refer to the computer as a tool that enhances our thinking, calculating and remembering capabilities. Can we view a discussion group/forum as a repository for thoughts, as a breeding ground for generating new ideas and trying on existing ones to see if they fit? Even if the answer is yes, many questions have to be asked:

• What to pupils have to learn in order to be able to use this tool effectively?
• How does this tool have to be organized in order for it to actually be useful?
• Does the tool only contain "useful” information? How do we distinguish between the "useful” and the "worthless”?
