Choose your ending - for us.

Over thirty years ago, along with a number of friends, I received free tickets to a pre-screening of a movie. Not one to forego a freebie, we packed into a car and drove to the theater. This was, as we should have known, an example of the "no free lunch" phenomenon. In return for viewing the film we were asked to fill out a questionnaire that attempts to determine our impressions about different aspects of the film: "Did you like the character that this actor played?", "Was the ending to your taste?". This was truly a pre-screening. The film didn't make it to theaters until a number of months later. The producers reviewed all the questionnaires and made whatever changes for called for in order to make the film more palatable (and saleable) to the public.
