Hey, I remember that!
There are days when I'll return home from work to find the boys sitting around
the computer playing a game which I was sure that they'd abandoned long ago. Since
installing our new operating system I found a floppy from a few years ago with
a game that had occupied them for almost countless hours and decided to reinstall
it. They found it and returned to it with an unexpected (to me at least) fervor.
So just what "nobody has any interest in" means is open to interpretation.
It's not hard to forget something and keep it out of mind, but apparently also
very easy to have some external trigger remind us of it again. As long as there's
hard drive space, I'll keep their games available, no matter how long it's been
since they last played them. This is basically the same principle upon which I
keep books on Hila's shelf. She may not have asked me to read her a particular
story for ages, but chances are good that if I remove a particular book from the
shelf, that's the book she'll want me to read tonight.
An old yet recently rediscovered game (and for that matter, an old yet recently
rediscovered book) can be at least as enjoyable as a new one - and quite a bit
cheaper.
