Will the real James Mclaughlin please stand up?

One more question veritably begs to be asked. If there are people who weren't really dangerous, but whose lives have been ruined as a result of McLaughlin's acting out the persona of a sexually precocious fourteen year old, perhaps he really is who he pretended to be. Perhaps James McLaughlin should be considered a sort of Howard Campbell, a double agent about whom it's hard to determine whether he was acting on behalf of the good guys or the bad guys. At the very least, I get the feeling that McLaughlin hasn't been careful enough about who he chose to be.
