Honoring the power of the internet.

It was on this day, in 1998, that the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, uttered the classic phrase:
I want to say one thing to the American people. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.
This was Clinton's first public statement on an issue that would shake his presidency. The two weeks leading up to that unforgettable statement were a fascinating lesson in the power of a technology that until that time was still primarily unknown to much of the American public - the internet. Within the internet community Matt Drudge had already become an established quantity, having numerous scoops to his credit, but reaching the White House was reaching a higher level. And all he'd done was pick up on a report that Newsweek had decided not to print.

Not bad for a hack reporter with a nose for rumors ... and a web site.
