The statistics don't exactly speak for themselves.
If we divide 66,000 by 30,000 we get slightly more than two postings for each
member. But as is of course true for most online communities, only a handful of
the members are active. One Israeli e-mail-based discussion forum that I've been
reading of late has about 230 listed members, and about thirty postings per day.
That averages out to about one message per member per week. Except that in this
case the averages don't tell the true story. I've seen postings by less than 10%,
perhaps less than 5%, of the membership. Most of the members are only reading
the postings (if that). Their "activity" in the group, if we can call
it that, apparently consists primarily of watching the show (which is more often
than not an argument between a couple of the few active members) as an audience.
Though I haven't examined enough of the forums of MMORPG to definitively say that
this is the case by them as well, it's an educated guess, and probably true.
Go to: Now why would I want to do that?, or
Go to: That's a mouthful, or
Go to: It's all in the game.
