There are way too many Google hits for combinations like Orwell and internet (about 300,000), or Big Brother and internet (over 1,200,000) to make checking them out a worthwhile endeavor. (Of course many or even most of these don't actually deal with either Orwell or Big Brother within the context of the internet. They may be promos for books, passing references, and the like. Still, seeing Orwell as a prophet of what might happen to us in the internet age is very popular.) With so many references, however, perhaps I can take some pride in the fact that this is the first time, after 90 columns, that I've used these phrases. Maybe it shows that the Boidem has taken a greater interest in other issues.
