Biting off more than I can chew.

Here I am, examining a topic, or more to the point, spouting off some ideas on a topic, that some people have given some long and hard thought to. Nobody really needs my not too well grounded opinion. Shouldn't I do my homework first? If I do, however, will I ever get around to writing this? There are, literally, thousands of web pages out there that deal with this issue – many of them quite seriously. Why should I think that I've got something to say about it?

About a year ago MIT's Technology Review carried a well reasoned overview of the pitfalls of online elections. A bit earlier Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility posted a series of articles that examined various aspects of online voting. The Center for the Study of Technology and Society did the same with an overview and a lengthy list of links on the subject. Of course the Open Directory Project has an Electronic Voting Systems category. And the ever useful How Stuff Works has a very clear explanation of how e-voting should work - that I almost didn't recognize.
