A simpler sort of down time.

Many teachers complain that using computers in the classroom causes a significant waste of time. The computer jams and we have to restart, and instead of waiting patiently for the computer to be ready for them, pupils start to bother others near them. Though a computer that never runs into technical difficulties would definitely be desirable, I tend to doubt that, in comparison to pre-computer classrooms, substantial time is lost to these technological glitches. Often, the same pupils who are waiting all too patiently for the computer to restart are the same pupils who in the past were capable of spending ten minutes or more sharpening their pencils or trying to pry their notebooks from the drawers of their desks. The means by which we waste it may have been upgraded, but the time wasted seems to remain about the same.
