There would have been a certain amount of logic in keeping this column totally free of links, perhaps as a way of acknowledging that the straight and narrow has something to be said for itself. I admit that I seriously considered that possibility for this column. Ultimately, however, I decided that the most proper framework for this column would be the framework that has evolved and developed over the years. It was as though continuing to sprinkle my links wherever they seemed to fit was the most fitting way of saying "fears or no fears, this is the way I write". And I guess it is.
