What's so similar between skywriting and a web page?

After a few hundred years of experience, we can pretty comfortably determine that the printed word on paper has a way of sticking around for extended periods of time. Bits on the screen, like those ephemeral fumes in the sky, seem to have a way of quickly fading away.
