A sort of example.

An conceptual artist friend of mine had an "earthline" in his old apartment. This was a line of earth, or perhaps dirt, which entered the apartment from a back window, and then moved along the walls until it exited via a front window. Preparing the line was quite simple: he lay down a line of plastic glue on his wall, and then stuck the dirt to it. (Well, perhaps he mixed dirt with glue and then stuck the mixture to his wall. That would be easier to do, though it doesn't really matter.) His reasoning was that just as each apartment has electricity running through it, a telephone line running through it, an antenna running through it, water pipes running through it, and the like (are there more, or is that "and the like" there only to make an impression?), each home should also have an earthline. It's an interesting concept, though not necessarily one that really needs such graphic execution. Our apartment, for instance, has an earthline which is constantly moving and changing position, but is most definitely always there. Whenever I open our internet connection I'm logging into the entire globe. I don't see why I might need a series of geographic links in order to concretize what already exists.
