They've certainly got a solution.

Microsoft is more than willing to offer their take on overcoming the compatibility problem. And I've got to admit that as much as I may not like it, there's more than a bit of logic in their solution. After all, if all of us use the same operating system, and the same software, we're not going to encounter compatibility problems. And if, by some strange chance, it's all manufactured and distributed by Microsoft, well, they're not going to complain much about that.
