A comic with a will of its own.

My file of computer and internet related comics hasn't grown much of late. Basically that's due to a mix of two different reasons. On the one hand, with the almost total integration of the internet into popular and mainstream culture, this has become a topic that hardly raises many eyebrows anymore. These comics were, a number of years ago, a way for popular culture to explore a new phenomenon. Now that phenomenon is no longer new, and there isn't that much to examine anymore. So while there may still be many internet related comics, these are on the whole a reworking of themes already presented long ago. The second reason is, of course, that my mother hasn't been clipping them, so my main source of finding them has dried up.

Some of these comics aren't really funny, or even interesting. I save them because they're part of an interesting phenomenon, but I don't have any intention of weaving them into these columns. On the other hand, there are some that stand out and virtually demand to be used in a particular column. And of course there are others, like this one. I was never sure just when or how I'd fit it into a column, but it was clear that somewhere along the line I would. It was as though it would call out to me "hey, remember me! I'm here!" each time I returned it to its folder after deciding not to use it. It always winked at me as I flipped past it. And of course in the end calling attention to itself paid off.
