When it rains it pours?

Too many cliches abound for me to be able to readily choose the most accurate. Some might say "great minds think alike", others simply that "the time was right", and yet others would claim that "everybody wants to get in on the act". Whatever, numerous internet developments seems to spring up in multiple versions at about the same time.

Backflip and Blink might as well be twins. Both their interfaces and the additional services that they offer are almost identical. They both suggest we add a button to the links bar, and let us install a window that lets us access them from the browser. And both are nice tools which will either catch on or will quickly subside into oblivion. Personally, I hope they don't, but their ultimate success is dependent on whether or not web surfers will begin to understand that they have to start seeing themselves as people who make use of the web environment rather than just surf it.
