It's been a long time.

I suppose that I've seen The Shop Around the Corner three times, perhaps more. I've enjoyed it everything time. Still, I can't say that I remember all of it. What's there to remember? Well, for instance, I don't recall a scene in which our heroes' co-workers try to read their mail over their shoulders, though I do seem to recall the heroine keeping her letters in a box and being protective of that box. That would be a point of comparison (if I could remember). Letters are, after all, physical entities. We can hold them, examine them, carry them with us, and in general become attached to them. E-mail, on the other hand, exists only inside the computer and in our memory. We can't really take our e-letters anywhere (unless we're carrying a laptop as well). They come to life for us only while the computer is on. Thus an interesting comparison would be to what extent the letters themselves, as three dimensional objects, as objects that are more than just their content, play a part in our heroes' relationship. It would be interesting to make this sort of comparison - if I could remember a bit more.
