Do not forsake me oh my client.

OK, OK, I admit it. It's not only for advertising reasons. Keeping a stranglehold on a constantly developing market is another, important reason (and the reason I usually see referred to in web articles that deal with giveaways). After all, with so many new technologies springing up who's to say that the ISDN line that you put in today won't be terribly outdated three months from now? Not to mention that cable modem, or perhaps the satellite hook-up which phoenix like seems to spring back to life every few months, promising us faster and faster data transfer rates. So with so many potential technologies waiting around the corner, it makes sense for today's service providers to promise and/or give away just about anything if in return they can compel us to commit to sticking with them for a couple of years.
