Web essays by definition (at least by my definition) tend to wander. The point at hand is often not exactly the point at hand, and there's almost always at least one other hand. Thus it seems a bit unfair to judge them too harshly if they give the impression that the person who wrote it wasn't completely sure where he or she was headed. After all, I've heard many lectures, and read many articles, in much more traditional frameworks, that left me totally unsure about whether the lecturer or author actually know where he or she was headed, or whether any linear sort of logic existed between the beginning and the end.
