Time isn't exactly on my side.

Even with a swift connection, checking the number of members each online "community" has listed can be a very time consuming activity. It's the sort of thing that you can devote a half hour to here, a half hour to there, and hope that you're not neglecting other tasks. After all, a thesis is still supposed to get written, classes have to be prepared, virtual teaching is still supposed to describe the method by which communication is established, not the fact that it's fully ephemeral.

And sometimes it's nice to be with your family, and maybe even go to sleep at night before it's morning. So ultimately, even though this might be a truly fascinating direction of study and investigation, it's not really a very high priority item, let alone setting up my own community and waiting by the gate for passersby to take a peek inside.
