To tell the truth, when I started preparing this column I really didn't think that on-demand publishing was going to be the topic. I mean, what I had in mind was an examination of the various means by which not-fully-digital technologies were still playing important roles in our lives. It was only as this column continued to take shape that I discovered that on-demand was such a central part of our semi-digitality.
