With a computer at home that presently functions only as a piece of furniture, preparing this column has been more difficult than usual. On the other hand, having a computer at home that functions only as furniture gave me an obvious topic for this column.
Much of the writing was done with the aid of that tried and true technological stand-by the lead pencil (which of course, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have lead in it anymore), but various neighbors' computers and then a laptop brought home from work played the necessary roll of digitizing the information. Uploading, however, demanded a few technical capabilities that the neighbors' computers weren't equipped for, and checking out the links, and sometimes finding them, had to be done when it was possible to be online comfortably.
So the date given is pretty much a correct one, with a bit of leeway for technological difficulties.
