Frankly, that word should be banned from Boidem columns.

Even without running a search I'm well aware that the word "ultimately" shows up many more times than is necessary or called for in these columns. And though I doubt I'll stop using it, I think it's a mistake. Part of the essence of a Boidem column is that it doesn't have an "ultimately". Instead, it's continually in the process of shifting focus, changing emphasis, exploring possibilities. Chances are good that if, instead of posting it when it's been posted I'd have kept this column in draft form for a couple more months, what's presently the main focus might have found itself demoted to a side issue and some other "point" would have taken its place.
