My search wasn't only for that particular version of Take Five, but also an attempt to learn whether others had scratched their heads over this. It was in that way that I chanced onto a bass players forum with a thread titled "Take Five" in 4/4??. The person who opened the thread reported hearing a 4/4 version and wrote:
Isn't that kind of losing the intent of the song? Yeah, I understand wanting to create a modern take on a classic, but keep the 5/4 time at least. Geez.
Yet another noted that playing the piece in 4/4 was "downright embarrassing", but most of the participants didn't mind the change. One participant, however, made a very pertinent observation:
I hope they at least renamed it "Take Four."Though I have no musical objection to changing the time signature there still seemed to me to be something illogical about making the (still relatively) uncommon common.
