Many words and phrases have a way of showing up in these columns with an almost distressing consistency. Why, for instance, am I always noting "of course"? Shouldn't I be explaining, rather than assuming that whoever is reading this knows what I mean? Sometimes, however, a specific term seems particularly fitting to the topic at hand. Because this column deals with a tool that many people consider to be out of date and to have run its course, I think that using "anachronistic" (or other variations on that word) three times (and that's only counting those on the main column page) is almost being conservative.
