Quite honestly, after more than twelve years of these columns, I can't really understand why any readers would do so. Time and again I've made it clear that what I write about myself in these pages is hardly "the truth" (if such a thing exists), doesn't bear any clear correlation to my off-the-page character. Perhaps I should almost feel offended - I've spent so much time, and so many words, cultivating a Boidemized persona, and some readers come along and actually mistake that persona for the "real" me? The nerve!
