Thanks, but no thanks.


Not surprisingly, since it was compiled by someone with whom I've got quite a bit in common, skimming the list was a bit like a walk down memory lane. These were books that have probably sat on his shelf for years without being opened, old friends that it may be hard to part with, but are expendable when you need the shelf space. Many I'd read, some are also on my shelves (or boxes) and a few actually made me think for a few seconds - maybe I should say I want that.

But it was only for a few seconds. Rather than taking books from someone, I'm probably one of the people who should be giving them away. And the present state of my bookshelf is one of too many books crammed into too little space - hardly putting me in a situation where I might consider adding more unopened books to my shelves.
