Was it really that important?

Chancing upon a long-lost email address can certainly be a pleasant surprise, but perhaps it's the sort of surprise that excites us only because we weren't particularly concerned about it sneaking up on us. Yes, it was nice to reestablish contact, and yes, both of us noted that we were pleased that it happened, but that perhaps only disguises the simple fact that over a period of a few years neither of us seemed to feel a pressing need to find each other's address. A Google search on me, in both Hebrew and English, easily brings up at least one of my working email addresses, and a simple phone call would have helped me get his. As far as I can tell, the phone was available throughout the entire time.
