Doing it the hard way.

In numerous courses I've taught I've watched my students meticulously plod over the keyboard seeking out "http://". To my dismay, only rarely are my entreaties to just type from the title, rather than from the prefix, heeded. I really don't know why that is. I would assume that people would be relieved to know that they don't have to type additional letters, especially letters that don't seem to have any meaning. But having encountered this situation numerous times, I've begun to think that my students see this as some sort of incantation, a magical offering to the gods of the internet. If they don't say the magic words, the desired web page isn't going to open.
