Maybe Microsoft had it right all along.
The term bookmarks always seemed to me to be preferable over the somewhat
populist sounding favorites, but perhaps the latter term made more sense.
Though the term shows up many times on the web (and is noted as accepted usage
in the Wiktionary) I'm not
sure that "favoriting" has really become a widely accepted term. What
I've learned to like about the term, however, is the fact that it's not as easily
confused with its counterpart that has a non-digital history. If we think in terms
of bookmarking, we inevitably think of a slip of paper that gets left in
a book, whereas if we think in terms of favoriting, we're allowing room
for solely digital usage.
