The luck of the click.
The fastest way to find a definition of a term that may not show up in a dictionary
is to type define: term into the Google search box and click on <ENTER>.
Obviously, I liked the one I quoted. But I suppose that I could have gone with
quite a few of the other definitions that showed up.
Had I done so, however, I wouldn't have learned that the glossary in which that
definition appears was written by Glenda Browne, nor that this same Glenda Browne
received the 2007 Ig Noble Prize for Literature for a research paper she wrote
in 2001:
on the problems encountered when alphabetising index
entries that start with 'The'.
It's a fascinating topic, and Browne has written a
wonderful page describing the prize ceremony, and more - perhaps even too
much more.
