(Almost) takes one to know one.
Doris Lessing has a web site, though
it's not maintained by her, and is basically a simple promotional site. It's maintained
by a fan who simply thinks that information about a writer of her stature should
be available on the internet - something about which she's undoubtedly correct.
Perhaps more interesting is that Lessing also has a
MySpace profile. This site is operated by the same fan who maintains her web
site. Of course a promotional web site is a bit different than staking a claim
in MySpace where there's an expectation to actually interact. That being the case,
and remembering Lessing's basic disapproval of things internet, we shouldn't be
surprised to find there a disclaimer that tells us that:
Doris Lessing is aware of this MySpace page which is
an extension of her web site www.dorislessing.org.
She is not online and does not access this page but messages will be forwarded
to her periodically.
That basically seems like a warning, lest we think that she really approves of
this sort of thing. Still, she's accumulated 372 friends via that site.

Go to: Accessed via the internet, of course, or
Go to: Should that really make headlines?, or
