Hopefully greater than the sum of its parts.
The Boidem isn't a book, and not only because the extensive use of hypertext
would make formatting these columns to the printed page more or less impossible.
It's not a book because its final chapter (if and when that appears) doesn't wind
things up, doesn't create an understanding of the whole as a coherent narrative.
A better metaphor might be a theme and variations, where the theme is the subtitle
that has accompanied the Boidem from its very start - an occasional column on
computers and information technologies in everyday life - and the variations are
my ever-changing, and admittedly contradictory, attempts to understand what that
means.
