Hopefully greater than the sum of its parts.

The Boidem isn't a book, and not only because the extensive use of hypertext would make formatting these columns to the printed page more or less impossible. It's not a book because its final chapter (if and when that appears) doesn't wind things up, doesn't create an understanding of the whole as a coherent narrative. A better metaphor might be a theme and variations, where the theme is the subtitle that has accompanied the Boidem from its very start - an occasional column on computers and information technologies in everyday life - and the variations are my ever-changing, and admittedly contradictory, attempts to understand what that means.
