You keep your music on your hard drive?

Actually, most of my music collection is on vinyl - and at present we don't have a working turntable in the house. That's perhaps less of a problem than it might seem since listening to music is something that I try to do while not doing anything else (not reading the newspaper, not writing a column, not surfing the web). That being the case, I rarely find the opportunity to sit quietly and listen.

But were I to find the time, I've got quite a few gigabytes of music filling up my hard drive, just itching to be listened to. In keeping with the conservative-technologist persona I've tried to cultivate in these columns, those gigabytes are congesting my hard drive because I still don't have an iPod. Come to think of it, however, the tenth birthday celebration of the Boidem is right around the corner, and perhaps (no hint intended) that would be a fitting sort of birthday present for my readers to pitch in and purchase.
