I hope that these columns appear as finished products to whoever reads them. I pride myself on going beyond just random thoughts to actually working things out in my head (via my fingers) before actually posting a column. This time, however, I wasn't sure that I'd be able to pull it off. When I started writing I'm quite sure (though by recollection and not by hindsight) that I knew precisely what I wanted to write, where I wanted to take things. As the column got written, however, it changed its focus at least three times. I found myself going off on more tangents than usual. It seemed to be a case of my use of Web 2.0 tools almost compelling me to write in a Web 2.0 style, and numerous times I had to remind myself that these columns are just a series of links.
