A small note at the bottom doesn't hurt ...
... but then again, it's doesn't necessarily help all that much either.
I'm (sort of) a strong believer in a small note at the bottom of a web page that
says something like: "last modified on ...". The "sort of"
essentially means that though I urge others to do this, it's not necessarily a
practice that I keep up myself. (And it's not called for in the Boidem.) If we
meet a page that tells us that it was "last modified" three years ago,
however, it's still not clear that work on it was purposefully stopped. For that
we'd need something like: "last and final modification on ...". Now
that would be a clear sign.
