Here we are again.


It was only last month that I mentioned Jakob Nielsen's proverbial maxim:
Users almost never look beyond the second page of search results.
and here I am, referring to it again. It's not as though this is a new, or earth-shattering, finding. Nielsen wrote that sentence four years ago, but it apparently still holds true today. For the sort of things that I write, it means that I'm not going to be found very often (though I doubt that anybody is searching for me anyway). For people who want to attract potential clients, however, this can become a life or death issue - if you can't get yourself into those first couple of pages (and my guess is that most searches end before they even get to the second page), you're not going to be able to feed your kids. If somebody can give you pointers on how to get yourself into those first results, you'll be happy to pay for it.
