Alta who?

It's not only a case of search upstaging any other method of finding information on the web, but also of Google almost totally dominating all other search engines (and probably hardly anybody uses advanced search anymore either). We've gotten to the point where there's actually very little to teach. What could be simpler than:

open Google
type in a search term
click on <ENTER>
click on the first few results
Of course with AltaVista we used to do the same thing, but somehow Google has made us feel not only that it's ubiquitous, but also that it's somehow inevitable, a force of nature. Where perhaps suggests why on Seltzer's site his discussion of using AltaVista is sandwiched between ads sponsored by Google and a Google search box. If you can't beat 'em ....
