A family tradition.
My grandmother died in 1977 when she was almost 90 years old. She lived a full
life and was apparently healthy throughout most of it. As should be, I suppose,
expected, as she grew older numerous health problems inevitably arose. Along with
these problems came questions - should she eat some particular food, should she
make a certain trip, and the like. To these questions my father inevitably replied
"how sick can you get?" which was a rather logical question to ask an
almost 90 year old woman. I've inherited the question, though at the moment the
only person whom I can readily direct it toward is my mother. In the end, of course,
my grandmother died, meaning perhaps that she was able to get very sick, but even
if the various foods and activities took their toll, they were undoubtedly part
of living a full life.
