Fascinated as I may be with the possibilities that future generations of hypertextual writing may offer us, I have to admit that I'm also fearful of them. This fear doesn't stem from any distrust of technology, or a fear of taking things to their extremes. Quite the contrary, I'm fearful that the ultimate outcome of creating a collective voice might be a collection of texts that are bland and indistinguishable one from the other. Voice is, perhaps by definition, individual. Many things can, and probably should, be done collectively. I'm not sure that writing is one of them.
