The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) is a new research centre at the University of
Freiburg, funded by the German federal and state governments within the
framework of the 2006/07 Excellence Initiative for the promotion of academic research.

For 2008/9 applications are invited for
4 Senior Research Fellowships
for Professors in
the field of History and/or allied disciplines and
2 Junior Research Fellowships
for
post-doctoral researchers in the field of History and/or allied disciplines.
Candidates for Senior Fellowships should have an outstanding record in international
academia with a high-ranking publication profile. Applicants for Junior
Fellowships should be exceptional young researchers with a highly promising Ph.D.
in addition to further publications.
Fellowships do not entail any teaching obligations. However, Junior
Fellows wishing to do so may teach within the University and can also further
qualify at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Albert-Ludwigs-University.
All fellowships start either from 1st April or 1st
October 2008. They will
be remunerated as a research grant or according to the German professorial
system, depending on the
candidate’s profile and qualification. Senior Fellowships are for one year.
Junior Fellowships are for one year but can be extended to up to three years
