"Geometry and Topology in the Quantum Hall Effect"

Prof. Joseph Avron
Department of Physics, Technion

This will be a review of a geometric approach to the quantum Hall effect. I shall explain what is the adiabatic curvature, what are Chern numbers, and what is the Fredholm Index of an operator, and how these three concepts are used to explain various aspects of the Hall effect. I shall also discuss some open problems.
