"Electronic transport in one-dimensional quantum wires"

Eyal Levy
Dept. of Condensed Matter Physics, Tel Aviv University

It is well known that the conductance in quantum wires (QWRs) is quantized according to Landauer's formula. We observe this quantization in V-groove QWRs formed in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures and show that the conductance decreases from the Landauer values 2e2/h as the temperature is lowered. We discuss this degradation in terms of the Luttinger liquid model.
